About Us

On the holy bank of river “Devi” our Govindpur College was established on the auspicious day of 5th January,1990(Friday) on the colossal area of 10acresof land on the premises of “DeviVihar” in the revenue village of Govindpur under Kantapada Block of Cuttack District. Since then our College has been functioning under on the aegis of G.B. of GovindpurCollege registered under Society Registration Act-1860 Vide Certificate No-CTC-1051/1003 of 1990-91 in the Collectorate of Cuttack and by the approved G.B’s of the Govt. from time to time. The OpeningPermission of +3 Arts with 64 seats with English,MIL(O) as compulsory subjects and History, Political Science,Economics and Odia as optional subjects was granted in the academic session 1990-91. Subsequently, the seats were increased to 128 in 1994-95 and to 192 in 1997-98 with grant of three additional subjects like Education, Sanskrit and Sociology. Againin the Session 2000-2001,the +3Science and +3 Commerce Streams were opened.The College was granted the Permanent Recognition in session 2003-04 and the Permanent Affiliation was given to the College by the affiliating UtkalUniversity ,VaniVihar ,Bhubaneswar in the 2004-05 session. The UGC, New Delhi accredited the College with grant of Section 2(F) in the year 2008and Section 12(B) in the year 2012 vide their approval Order No F.No 8-165/2008(CPP)/dtd 4th September 2012.

The College added another feather in it’s cap when the Professional Courses like Bachelorof Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) & Bachelor of Social Works(BSW)-30 seats each were permitted by the Department of Higher Education,Govt Of Odisha in the Session 2010-11.Coincidentally,in the same yearthe seats in +3 Arts were increased from 192 to 256, and from128 to 192 in +3 Science by which the total students strength was remarkably raised to 2000 capacity which was anew benchmark for the College.

Another memorable achievement came in the year 2011 when our College was notified as Aided Educational Institution/Aided College under the GIAOrder 2008vide the Govt. notification No-IV-HE-C-11/2011/13624 Dtd.26.03.2011.

Further in the session 2016-17 therewassubstantial Increase of seats in +3 Arts to 320, in +3 Science to 448(PCM-256 &CBZ 192) andin +3 Commerce to 128 seats with convergence of all pass seats into Honours seatswith the introduction of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) Examination System by our Utkal University. For the first time Computer Science Honours was also opened in the same year with 16 seats.This was also another milestone for us as the students strength reached to 3000 mark.

A new chapter of academic excellence was achieved when Sri Anant Das,Hon’ble Minister Higher Education, Govt of Odisha granted Opening Permission to the opening of PG courses in our College in the subjects of M.A. in Economics-32 seats and M.A. in Education-32 seatsin the year 2017-18 and the College got into the manual admissions upto 2019-20 and from Session 2020-21 our College was enlisted in the CPET list for online PG admissions and since then the qualified students of the CPET list have been admitted online through the SAMS PG Portal.

Another accomplishing achievement came when DrArun Kumar Sahoo,Hon’ble Minister, Higher Education, Agriculture and FARD,Govt of Odisha granted permission to more PG subjects like M.A. in History-24 seats, M.A. in Political Science-24 seats, M.A. in Odia-16 seats and opening of M.Com-with 16 seats from the Session 2021-22 to our College.This was possible because of his physicalvisit in the InauguralFunction of theNew “Devi Girls Hostel” and the “ Gallery Auditorium”on 13th March 2021 and after being satisfied over the all-round developments of ourCollege, his magnanimousMinister’sCourt on 21.09.2021 had granted these PG subjects which made all of us proud and grateful.

Making thisCollege as an Ideal one, the credit will definitely go to our Founder Secretary Sri KalandiCharanPaikray whose continuous effort,endeavour and prospective activities have made this College as a successful anddifferent one.Our College owes a lot to the contributions of Late Sri BauriBandhu Panda, the learned and well-knownAyurvedist of our locality, as the Founder President,of the G.B., Late Sri BanambaraMohapatra, the Patron Secretary of the G.B., Late Sri DaitariBeura, Founder Member of G.B., Sri DijabaraSathua, the Founder Member of G.B.,and Sri BrundabanPatra, the Founder member of the G.B in the illuminated development of the College from time to time .

Last but not least, behindall the success stories, it is the continuous efforts and contributions ofthe capable and dynamic leadership of Dr.GaganBeura, thevisionaryPrincipal of our College whose sincerity, hardwork and administrative acumen have the converged into aRising College in the State.

These constructive developments are going on and it’s possible because of the active co-operation and co-ordination of all teaching and non teaching staff of our College who have been pledgedto sacrifice with commitments and work relentlessly with a principle of the “TEAMWORK”. We all believe on the famous lines of the Great American Poet Robert Frost,

“These woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,
